The space
Pasatiempo del Sur is a coastal oasis in Puerto Cayo, Manabi. Bamboo fencing hedged with hibiscus creates a colorful and private sanctuary for our guests. The three buildings on the property are situated to maximize views to the sea and to the lush gardens of the property. Palms provide dappled shade for the pool and fresh coconut water for smoothies. The tufted grass of the lawn is surrounded by mature plantings including bougainvillea in pinks and reds, a variety of cacti and aloe, and lilies in yellows and oranges. The air is filled with the sound of the sea and birdsong. Hammocks sway under the thatched-roof gazebo, a perfect place for napping, reading, or doing nothing at all. My husband, Ron, and I have been in the hospitality business for 20 years. Ron started a hotel, Pasatiempo Hotel, in Costa Rica in 1992 which became quite popular. After we sold the business we moved to Panama for 5 years. We discovered we missed interacting with people from around the world. So, we bought a 1/2 acre property in Ecuador in 2013 and started creating our new business, Pasatiempodelsur Apartments. We are so happy and content to have this venture.
