Casa Joia was originally a small vineyard. It is extremely charming, and rustic. We are nestled on the hillside in an area of outstanding natural beauty with uninterrupted views down to the Obidos Lagoon at the end of the garden. The lagoon is home to a huge variety of water/wading birds...flamingos, storks, purple heron, curlew plus fish, eels and shellfish.
With one hectare of garden we offer a truly tranquil environment where normally the only sounds are from our feathered friends.

The space
Casa Joia Old Farmhouse is extremely charming with an original large fireplace in the beamed sitting room. It has two main bedrooms - one ground floor double with access to bathroom/toilet etc, and one up a wooden staircase on the first floor. This is a double with en suite shower/toilet. There is also a single bedroom which leads directly off the main bedroom upstairs...this is suitable for family accommodation.
We have antique iron beds.....with comfortable mattresses. Quality bed linen with feather duvets. The modern kitchen is well equipped with oven, fridge/freezer, microwave and washing machine. Adjacent to the kitchen is a comfortable dining room.
This house is self catering and breakfast is not provided. Also check out our other house, Casa Roma and Loft Studio.

Where you’ll be

Nadadouro, Leiria, Portugal

We are rural but, while not remote, transport is essential.
Nadadouro is the nearest village, appox 2km. It has two bars/cafes and a small but very good grocery shop....with fresh bread each morning.
The small resort of Foz do Arelho is approx 4km and is where the calm lagoon meets the wild Altantic. It has a wonderful beach and cafes/bars/restaurants.
Caldas da Rainha the main town is 7/8 km. It is a busy
town with many shops, good supermarkets and a daily fruit and vegetable market in the main square. There is a wonderful park in the centre complete with boating lake and museum. A great place to relax and watch the world go by.
Caldas is the traditional home of the ceramic region with a ceramic museum alongside a large pottery, Bordalo Pinheiro, producing their famous highly decorated jugs bowls etc. Geographically we are extremely well situated with many interesting destinations within easy reach from as little as 15 minutes to just over 1 hour.

Retired and happy. I love all aspects of our natural world.......birds, trees, flowers. I'm a passionate gardener and adore my constant companion Roma, my little Italian Greyhound.

During your stay

I live on site in another part of this converted farm with my little dog.
I keep a low-ish profile (and try to encourage my dog to do the same!) but am readily available to offer information, help and advice. My overall aim is that guests can have the opportunity to be themselves and truly enjoy this magical location.
