Where you’ll be

Bisil, Kajiado County, Kenya

The small market town of Bisil town is a 10 minute drive from the camp. It has two petrol stations, and shops selling basic foodstuffs. You can pick up a Maasai blanket at one of the roadside stalls, and if you fancy sampling local cuisine there are a number of "Nyama Choma" joints serving delicious roasted goat and beef.

If you are interested in local culture, it is well worth visiting the open air livestock market which takes place in town on Fridays and Mondays. An authentic and colourful event that brings together Maasai traders from all over the county to buy and sell cattle, goats and sheep.

We recommend you do the bulk of your shopping in Nairobi, but should you need extra provisions, there is an Eastmatt supermarket en route to Bisil in Kajiado. (Eastmatt does not sell alcohol).

During your stay

Kichaka is a self catering establishment and guests are responsible for cooking meals – however, staff are on hand to make your stay comfortable, and to assist with basic food prep and washing up. A free-lance cook can be hired for 2,000/- per day. The telephone number will be sent upon confirmation and booking.

Our expert guide is available to accompany you on bush walks around the farm and on longer hikes in the surrounding hills. He is keen to share his knowledge of indigenous plants and their traditional medicinal uses, and will point out some of the 'hidden hillside treasures', that you might otherwise miss.
