Where you’ll be

Genova, Liguria, Italy

Nervi is an enchanting Genoese east coast village, famous for its naturalistic beauties and mild climate.
It is a neighborhood located on the sea: in the summer months you can choose between a cliff or a pebble beach where you can sunbathe and swim. Ferries to Camogli, San Fruttuoso and the Cinque Terre leave from the marina.
In an almost completely pedestrian circuit and far from cars, it is possible to start from the historic core of the marina and, along the Anita Garibaldi promenade, to reach the parks where, through the rose garden, you can reach the patrician villas, headquarters of the Gallery of Modern Art of the collections of art Frugone and Luxoro. Leaving the parks towards the town, it is possible to choose whether to climb the paths that lead to the panoramic back of S.Ilario or, after visiting the painters' shops, walk towards the center. Here you can still decide whether to go back for a walk along the elegant Viale delle Palme or to continue along the main street where shopping and some glimpses are almost obligatory stages.

THE WALK (Anita Garibaldi) to the sea, far from traffic and lying on the cliff, winds for about two kilometers connecting the marina with the Capolungo port. Going down from the numerous entrances you can access the cliff and in the summer the bathing establishments allow a dip in the sea and in the swimming pools set among the rocks or in the middle of the olive trees. In the evening it is possible to taste fish dishes and focaccias in seaside restaurants. The walk borders for about half of its journey with the parks and the rose garden, to which it is connected by several passages.

THE PARKS: behind the cliff, an elegant junction of 100,000 square meters between the mountains and the sea. Among the palm trees or in the shade of the maritime pines it is possible to walk enjoying the flowering of the rose garden which extends from April to November.
In addition, the parks of Nervi host: the Frugone collection in the seventeenth-century villa Grimaldi, the modern art museum of villa Serra and the villa-museum of villa Luxoro.
It is the largest urban park on the Mediterranean sea, where the Mediterranean flora is combined with exotic and tropical plants.
Free entry.
Address: Via Capolungo, 1, 16167 Genova

THE PORTICCIOLO AND CAPOLUNGO: They are the two extremes of the promenade .
The marina is the historic heart of Nervi: the colorful houses, the beach, the pergolas and the small boats moored on the quay are gathered between two spurs of rock on which, perched, the castle on one side and the Emiliani college from other. At the other end, after having covered the two kilometers of walk, you reach Capolungo, a micro village with houses on the rocks and views of the cliff or the gardens of the villas overlooking the sea. From this quiet and collected corner it is possible to go back up to Villa Luxoro passing in front of the station of S.Ilario, that of Bocca di Rosa. (famous song by Fabrizio De Andrè).

S. ILARIO AND THE HEIGHTS: The "creuze" (climbs of bricks and stones) that climb behind Nervi allow you to reach S.Rocco and S.Ilario from where scenic walks leave halfway up the hill or on the ridge and from where it is It is possible to enjoy a splendid panorama of the Paradiso gulf and, on the north wind days, to see the silhouettes of Corsica and Capraia.
