The Castle on Champagne Ridge is the perfect off-the-grid eco-friendly getaway from Nairobi. Enjoy stunning views from it's cliff top position overlooking the Great Rift Valley and surrounding countryside.

Hang out on the spacious balcony while grilling nyama and soaking in the amazing views of the glorious countryside. An off-the-grid self-sufficient home with it's own solar power and water harvesting systems, sleeping a maximum of 6 adults (no children under 15 yrs) in 5 sleeping area.

The space
Perched on a cliff with an open plan design maximising on the amazing views of countryside and outdoor living areas. The living area boasts a comfortable Italian leather sofa (guaranteed to induce an afternoon nap), the open plan kitchen offers the best views of any kitchen in Africa and the large mahogany dining table is perfect to enjoy meals with friends.

The balcony is kitted with an outdoor dining table with comfortable safari style chairs while the gas BBQ grill tempts anyone to cook dinner. There are a couple of lazy chairs which are perfect for chilling while reading a great book or staring at the amazing view or for that sneaky cat nap. The house is perched on top of a cliff with incredible sweeping views across the Great Rift Valley.

The Castle is the perfect escape from the city to breath in fresh countryside air and enjoy amazing views while living off-the-grid with 24 hour a day solar power, clean rain water and instant gas hot water showers.

The kitchen is equipped with pots, pans, cutlery, crockery, glasses, and mugs, a fridge as well as a gas oven, grill and cook top which is ideal to cook up a gourmet meal or to heat up food you have come prepared with.

There is tea, coffee and sugar as well as salt and pepper and a few other spices in the kitchen. We harvest rain water and it is safe to drink from the tap (saves bringing plastic water bottles with you)

There is a library filled with a range of books for you to enjoy while staying and some games like monopoly, cards and dominoes. As well as a TV and DVD player with a range of movies on DVD.

There are 5 sleeping areas, 2 bedrooms downstairs and 3 sleeping areas on the mezzanine floor separated with a unique indoor canvas tent! The mezzanine has an indoor balcony and living area with stunning views of the Rift Valley.

While we don't have Wifi you will enjoy excellent phone and internet reception with Safaricom (4G) and Airtel (3G/4G).

We harvest rain water, treat it and store in undercover water tanks, therefore it is safe to drink water from the tap.

We don't have a resident chef, however for those who want to limit their time in the kitchen we have some solutions making self catering easier than ever.

- all our cottages have a gas bbq grill making self catering easy. Throw some meat and vegetables on the bbq while enjoying a Tusker and the view.

- Come with pizza or another take away for the 1st night (and 2nd!) and reheat on the bbq (has a lid so doubles as an oven) or on the gas cooktop.

- Enjoy a Masai Experience and BBQ lunch while supporting our local community tourism venture! This experience can be booked through Airbnb Experience, simply search for - Masai Experience, BBQ Lunch, Beading, Culture, Conversation, Kiserian, Kenya hosted by Josephine.

- Order from Greenspoon and arrange delivery for the day you arrive. We take delivery and place in the cottage for you. They have everything you may need for your staycation from ready made meals, meat, bread, cheese, dairy, vegan products, vegetables, beer and wine etc. When ordering, write under delivery instructions THE CASTLE - THE CASTLE, CHAMPAGNE RIDGE, NEAR KISERIAN IN KAJIADO COUNTY and indicate County as KAJIADO. They know us - we order from them all the time!! Note as we are not in Nairobi County please order before 12 noon the day BEFORE you arrive or earlier as our deliveries come the next day.

- support local entrepreneurs and order from boda guys based in Kiserian. We can supply a number. Get nyama choma and all the sides delivered from one of the many amazing nyama choma places in Kiserian!

The area is very safe to go walking on top of the cliff or if you are up for more energetic exercise then you can hike in and out of the valley either way you will be rewarded with amazing views of the countryside.

Hiking in in the surrounding countryside is fantastic, we have a natural spring and traditional Masai caves which can be visited (Masai caves subject to not being used by the Elders or young Masai warriors); there is also a huge old twisted yellow acacia tree which will have you wondering how it got its shape! The stunning views and diverse countryside terrain makes the area an ideal home for dik diks, rock hyrax, vervet monkeys and eland!!

The Castle at The Castle on Champagne Ridge is surrounded by thousands of acres of African countryside in the heart of Masai land. Being off-the-grid means we are one with the surrounding countryside. We are blessed to be near larger animals like cows, goats and sheep you may also encounter zebra, eland and dik diks as well as smaller, maybe not so welcome, flies, ants, spiders and rodents. All creatures great and small are integral to maintaining a healthy environment and each serve a valuable purpose. If this is not for you, maybe you are best suited to a city based getaway.

The Castle is an off-the-grid cliff top home in the gorgeous African countryside with amazing views yet only 20 minutes from Corner Baridi (on a murrum road), 30 minutes from Kiserian and 45 minutes from Ngong Town.

We will maintain a ZERO CONTACT policy with our guests, this includes check in and check out. Once you arrive and park we will direct you to your accommodation where you will find the key to let yourselves in.

Originally from Adelaide, Australia I have lived on the African continent since 2003 working in tourism as well as running our own community solar power project Napenda Solar Community. I have spent the better part of my working life outside of Australia and living all over the World.

The Castle on Champagne Ridge near Kiserian is our refuge, a place to relax and recharge the batteries. I love to cook so spend my free time in the kitchen working on some new recipe or simply experimenting with various ingredients and textures.

Thiemo, my husband, is the brains behind the design of all our 5 cottages (Nest, Dhow, Cave, Tower and Castle). He is a solar power guru and my own personal Mr Fix It!

We have 5 German Shepherd dogs; Sally, Stella, Beau, Zanny and Pikey who are thoroughly spoiled, although they may not agree! They love their daily walks, swimming in the dam and playing soccer (football). Sally and Stella are adopted, while Beau and Zanny are rescue dogs; and Pikey arrived on our front lawn in Dec 2019 begging for food and never left!

The Castle is open to all regardless of religion, culture, sexual orientation or nationality. After all, variety is the spice of life.
