Instead of writing down tips for each individual guest, creating a guidebook on Airbnb can help you save time and energy by consolidating all the recommendations you’d want to leave for your guests in one place. Here’s how you can make the most of guidebooks to show off your city and give guests an authentic, local experience.
What is a guidebook?
A guidebook is your opportunity to give guests rich information that shows off your hospitality and your city. You can create a personalized guidebook on Airbnb so guests have it available at their fingertips in the mobile app. What kind of recommendations you provide are up to you, so think of what kind of suggestions you’d want as a traveler. Guests often appreciate recommendations for dining, sightseeing, unique shops, and interesting outdoor experiences.
5 tips for creating a great guidebook
- Keep it brief. Make it easy for guests to scan your suggestions by keeping each recommendation short. Help guests understand what the place or experience is and why they should try it.
- Make it personal. Strong recommendations come from personal knowledge and experience. It’s best to only recommend places you have personally enjoyed.
- Mention special features. Be sure to include any unique or notable features, like a restaurant’s beautiful outdoor patio, or a store’s special section of locally sourced goods.
- Include a photo. Upload a photo when possible for each place you're recommending to make your guidebook more visual and engaging. Airbnb utilizes third-party photos for most places, but hosts can also upload their own photos to add a personal touch.
- Keep it updated. Make sure to review your guidebook from time to time to add new suggestions. For example, you may need to update your guidebook to reflect your community's current COVID-19 restrictions and suggest activities that can be done while maintaining social distance.
Have more than one listing?
Guidebooks are linked to your host account, not the individual listing (which is helpful for hosts with multiple rooms or homes to share). “I can now create one guidebook for the area that will suit all three of my listings,” says Ann, a Superhost in New York City.
How guests access your guidebook
Guests can access your guidebook by going to their Trips screen, where it will automatically appear when the booking is confirmed. They can also access it from your profile page and your listing page. Hosts and guests can share guidebook recommendations via email or social media, and even print them out. Be sure to share your guidebook with each guest, since they’re not sent out automatically.

Airbnb uses host recommendations to help travelers find unique activities, attractions, and restaurants in popular destinations on our Things to Do pages. These pages don’t exist in every destination, but we’re always adding more. Once enough hosts have given recommendations in a locale, we can create a Things to Do page. Each recommendation links back to the profile page of the host who wrote it—so sharing high-quality content can be a way to gain extra visibility for your listings.
