Croatian cuisine is very diverse and every region of Croatia has its own distinct culinary tradition. Its roots date back to ancient times. The differences in the selection of foodstuffs and forms of cooking are most notable between those in mainland and those in coastal regions. Mainland cuisine is more characterized by the earlier Slavic and the more recent contacts withGerman, Hungarian and Turkish cuisine, using lard for cooking, and spices such as black pepper, paprika, and garlic. The coastal region bears the influences of the Greek and Roman cuisine, as well as of the later Mediterranean cuisine, in particular Italian (especially Venetian). Coastal cuisines use olive oil, and herbs and spices such as rosemary, sage, bay leaf, oregano, marjoram, cinnamon, clove, nutmeg, and lemon and orange rind. As
Zagreb is the capital of Croatia and we are lucky to have food from the whole country. We will visit couple of restaurants in the City center which offer traditional food and try all the specialties. I will help you with all your question about the Croatian food and history which made our cuisine so diverse.

We will visit three restaurants in the old City of Zagreb, First one is located in the Downtown and it offers specialties from whole Croatia which includes Istria, Slavonija and Lika. Second resturant is specialized for famous local dish from Zagreb called ŠTRUKLI-layered pastry with cheese and cream. The last but not least restaurant is located in the Uppertown and there we will be able to try best food from Dalmatia.

This tour with Luka was absolutely amazing and worth every dollar! Luka is so personable and a skilled storyteller who had us fully engaged and captivated with his humor, energy and vast history knowledge. He was thoughtful throughout the process, making sure he took into account any allergies or food sensitivities we may have prior to our tour and then offering more recommendations after the tour. When the tour was done, I wished we could continue talking to Luka and learning more about Croatia! It was that great. Overall, I highly recommend this tour and I think it's a good idea to do it as soon as you get to Zagreb. We did it early and all the information Luka gave us provided context to the sightseeing we did after the tour.

Really great tour- we loved all the food choices and it was great to try some things that we wouldn’t have otherwise. Luka was a great host and entertained us with history and a great chat about his life and stories. It was the highlight of our trip!

Great Host - great Experience. Luka is a wonderful person and is a really good story teller - so we didn’t just had great food (what we did) but also learned a lot about Croatia and its history. Also found some beautiful spots in Zagreb - really appreciated:-) Thanks a lot! After the tour Luka send us a list with further recommendations - very thoughtful! Would do the tour again with same host and different restaurants 😉

Had a fantastic experience hanging out with Luka. He took us to excellent Croatian restaurants and ordered dishes we would have never found on our own. He also knows much about Croatian history and provided some good tips on other things to do in Zagreb. Thanks Luka!
