Croatian cuisine is very diverse and every region of Croatia has its own distinct culinary tradition. Its roots date back to ancient times. The differences in the selection of foodstuffs and forms of cooking are most notable between those in mainland and those in coastal regions. Mainland cuisine is more characterized by the earlier Slavic and the more recent contacts withGerman, Hungarian and Turkish cuisine, using lard for cooking, and spices such as black pepper, paprika, and garlic. The coastal region bears the influences of the Greek and Roman cuisine, as well as of the later Mediterranean cuisine, in particular Italian (especially Venetian). Coastal cuisines use olive oil, and herbs and spices such as rosemary, sage, bay leaf, oregano, marjoram, cinnamon, clove, nutmeg, and lemon and orange rind. As
Zagreb is the capital of Croatia and we are lucky to have food from the whole country. We will visit couple of restaurants in the City center which offer traditional food and try all the specialties. I will help you with all your question about the Croatian food and history which made our cuisine so diverse.

Where you'll be

We will visit three restaurants in the old City of Zagreb, First one is located in the Downtown and it offers specialties from whole Croatia which includes Istria, Slavonija and Lika. Second resturant is specialized for famous local dish from Zagreb called ŠTRUKLI-layered pastry with cheese and cream. The last but not least restaurant is located in the Uppertown and there we will be able to try best food from Dalmatia.

Luka was a great host, very energetic, knowledgeable and genuinely interested in the history of the stories he shared. Would very much recommend if you're not only interested in food but also want more some back story!

Such a great tour. The food was really good and the locations felt really authentic. Don't eat beforehand as the food will be enough. Luka was really nice and created a really good atmosphere, great for solo travellers and meeting new people. Highly reccommend

Taking a food tour with Luka was one of the highlights of my stay in Zagreb. Not only did he share great stories about the history of Zagreb, but introduced me to places to eat I wouldn't have found on my own. Come hungry for this tour!

We are two older women from USA that enjoy food and cultural experiences. Our host Luka was terrific. He had so much interesting information about the history of Zagreb and the food and wine he introduced to us was delicious. The restaurants we visited received us graciously and met the needs of a vegetarian guest. We learned so much and enjoyed Luka’s knowledge and kindness. We recommend this tour highly.
