What you'll do

Croatian cuisine is very diverse and every region of Croatia has its own distinct culinary tradition. Its roots date back to ancient times. The differences in the selection of foodstuffs and forms of cooking are most notable between those in mainland and those in coastal regions. Mainland cuisine is more characterized by the earlier Slavic and the more recent contacts withGerman, Hungarian and Turkish cuisine, using lard for cooking, and spices such as black pepper, paprika, and garlic. The coastal region bears the influences of the Greek and Roman cuisine, as well as of the later Mediterranean cuisine, in particular Italian (especially Venetian). Coastal cuisines use olive oil, and herbs and spices such as rosemary, sage, bay leaf, oregano, marjoram, cinnamon, clove, nutmeg, and lemon and orange rind. As
Zagreb is the capital of Croatia and we are lucky to have food from the whole country. We will visit couple of restaurants in the City center which offer traditional food and try all the specialties. I will help you with all your question about the Croatian food and history which made our cuisine so diverse.

Where you'll be

We will visit three restaurants in the old City of Zagreb, First one is located in the Downtown and it offers specialties from whole Croatia which includes Istria, Slavonija and Lika. Second resturant is specialized for famous local dish from Zagreb called ŠTRUKLI-layered pastry with cheese and cream. The last but not least restaurant is located in the Uppertown and there we will be able to try best food from Dalmatia.

This was an amazing dining experience, with a bonus tour included. We were immersed with several varieties of amazing and delicious Croatian cuisine with wines and beautiful scenery. I expected the culinary experience, but was treated to a very localized tour and history of the destinations we encountered. The food and company were excellent, and I highly recommend it.

Very valuable experience with a great and enthusiastic storyteller, Luka. Highly recommended as a replacement for a normal evening restaurant visit with the family in Zagreb. Here you get so much more, three different restaurants and a lot of history to glue it all together for enjoyable 3 hours. Remember to tell Luka what you don’t like to eat and he will make sure to adapt the dishes.

AMAZING! Luka is the most wonderful tour guide. He is friendly, funny, kind, and knows so much about Zagreb and Croatia’s history. He really took the time to show us around and gave us tons of recommendations for the rest of our trip. The food and drinks were authentic and delicious. These were dishes and restaurants we would have never tried on our own. This is truly the BEST way to spend your time in Zagreb. You will not regret it !!

What a great introduction to Zagreb. Luka gave a fantastic tour of the older part of the city with stops at three different places to eat - not sample - local, Zagrebian dishes. Along the way he was a font of historical information about his city. Definitely worth every penny to learn about the city and eat a great, roving dinner. My recommendation is to have a light lunch as there is a lot of food to eat in this tour. He also hosts separate walking tours and biking tours.

So I wish I could say I love this. I didn’t. First I booked with Luka and he informed me he was going to a wedding and not coming and his friend would be there instead. His friend reminded us several times this is really Luka’s thing. Alex was super friendly but it was off putting to be switched. Also, I booked it because it was 5-7 and that was the window I had open. We were informed that it would be 3.5-4.5 hours. I had a meeting at 8 and was not prepared for such a long tour; I had to partially push back my meeting and in the last stop i ended up not really being able to enjoy the food. If the as said 5-9 i would have just not done it, but again it felt like a bait and switch. The food was fine but it wasn’t more than $20 worth of food that you could have pieced together on your own.
