What you'll do

Istanbul weekly farmers' markets are much more than you may expect: they are huge, rich, colorful, authentic, cheap...
Every Istanbulite shops in this markets.
Full of local products and delicacies: the ingredients for the wonderful food of Turkey's cuisines

Our walk into the discovery of one of the farmers' weekly markets includes tasting, smelling, comparing, hopefully learning ...maybe shopping

We will find plenty of seasonal vegetables and fruits, tasty local cheeses, olives, lot of cheap spices, legumes, rices and bulgurs, fishes from the Bosphorus, herbs for teas, homemade processed products: a real gourmet's paradise

Also we visit one important historical monument in the area: most of the time one of the ubiquitous huge and sublime imperial mosques of the city, with an introduction to practice and theology of Islam, or a talk on Ottoman history and architecture

N.B. sometimes in the nearby of the market there is no big mosque, yet in Istanbul there is always some important historical heritage behind the corner, real hidden gems, forgotten by mass tourism or official narrative. Be it a old Bizantyne church turned-to-mosque or an Greek Orthodox Church or a Jewish or Levantine quarter, the tour always includes an historical attraction

Bring a backpack with wheels, you’ll need it for the veggies and spices and different types of teas and coffees, very nice indeed

I love markets. To me it's the essence of a country, its region, its culture. For someone who plans on going to markets, I definitely recommend this because it allows you to see what else you can get but especially the bargains. I think Miko is the only one doing this and it's very needed.

This is my second experience with Miko and Roza, and it did not disappoint. I had a wonderful chat with Miko whilst tasting different food from the market and visited Fateh mosque. Miko is an excellent guide who offers a more academic approach than most guides. I really appreciated his knowledge of Fateh mosque where his academic background definitely showed and his experience as culinary consultant at the market. Give any of their tours a chance; they offer a excellent value for money and are a great starting point to your stay. I will definitely be booking more experiences with them in the future!

What a great experience. Miko is incredibly knowledgeable not only about the history of Istanbul, but also the world events that helped shape the city’s history. I never felt like I was with a “tour guide” but rather enjoying a series of interesting exchanges. Down to earth and utterly enjoyable, you shouldn’t miss it.

Lovely experience! Miko is more knowledgeable and compelling than most guides you'll encounter––able to put historical facts into perspective so as to give you a well-rounded view of the past and present of the neighborhood you visit. He tailored the tour to my interests and to what I gravitated toward, showed me local food and produce, and helped me taste and purchase what I wanted (which is not necessary btw, I just wanted to!). He is friendly, welcoming, and was ready to answer all questions I threw at him. Oh, he's also perfectly fluent in both English and Italian––and of course, Turkish. You cannot go wrong with this tour, I couldn't recommend it enough! :)
