What you'll do

We meet in the borough with the highest concentration of artists on the strip where a massive mural festival is held yearly.

We're going to be hitting the streets of the Plateau Mont-Royal to check out anywhere between 20 - 30 works of art. The murals range from 2 - 9 storeys tall. We'll be learning about the artists, the message and different techniques as well as about Montreal street art and graffiti scene.

We'll take to the smaller back streets and alleyways to cover some hidden gems and just might witness some live work. Here we will discover some installations and different types of guerilla art as well as get to know some of our graffiti writers and crews a bit better.

At the end of the experience we'll be handing you a list of recommendations for craft beer, local designer shopping, COOL art galleries and the best food. The essentials of travel, quoi. Ask your guide to point out other great street art locations to continue on your own.

We founded Spade & Palacio tours 5 years ago and have been working in the tourism industry for 10. We wanted to show guests an intimate small group experience, taking them beyond the regular tourist haunts. We work regularly with travel journalists and filming crews showcasing beautiful Montreal through the eyes of a local. Our guests are our new friends we show around town, a town we just happen to know a lot about.

This tour was such a good experience that I would highly recommend. Danny, our guide, really knows the Montreal street art scene, and could tell us personal stories about each artist and the murals featured on the tour. He made the tour interactive and was really easy to talk to, answering all of our questions about both the murals and the neighborhood. He also left us with great recommendations for other things to see and do in Montreal. This was certainly a highlight of our visit to Montreal!

Mel gave a great tour. The murals in the neighborhood are densely packed so we got to see a lot without miles of walking. She gave us nice details and history and was very accommodating of my young daughter's questions and comments. I appreciated how she told us about both the "official" murals and the graffiti that often accompanied them. Nice coffee stop partway through, too!

Danny introduced us to an interesting and overlooked part of the Montreal landscape. He was very knowledgeable about the outdoor art scene in the city and provided original and valuable insights into the subject material. He engaged everyone in the group by asking for their perspectives about the artwork we viewed and was respectful of all opinions, thus creating an open and positive atmosphere for the excursion.

We learned so much about street art, of which we knew nothing! Such an interesting sub-culture to discover. Danny was fun, knowledgable and broke up a chilly November tour with a coffee shop warm up! (Much appreciated) I now have much more respect for street art and will be looking everywhere to find what Danny shared with us. Great activity for an afternoon visit in Montreal.

It was so chilly outside that I was considering not showing up but I’m so glad I did! Thanks to Danny’s knowledge and love of the art, this tour really stands out! Made me appreciate and see art in a new light!
