What you'll do

On a typical lesson day we meet in the morning at one of Palermo’s oldest markets, shop around for any items we will need for the lesson and then stroll to the air-conditioned kitchen in The Sicilian Pantry cookery school where we prepare a 4 course Sicilian meal, learning the techniques and tricks needed to recreate it when you return home.

Meals are made up of a starter, pasta course, main course and desert (changes can be made for individuals with specific dietary requirements where appropriate). After the lesson we can sit down together to enjoy the fruits of our labour along with a selection of Sicilian wines rounded off with some homemade liqueurs and coffee.

We believe that the true expression of Sicilian cuisine comes from the quality of its fresh seasonal produce so we strive to always ensure that we have the best of what Sicily has to offer in order to share this with our guests.

This is an entertaining and informative day out, recommended for cooks of all levels.

I came to Sicily 13 years ago, chasing the love of my life after meeting her on a plane! I studied Italian cuisine at Alma before working in various restaurants, soaking up every bit of information before taking off around Europe to work as a private chef

As exciting as that may seem, I missed the simple food & traditions of the Sicilian countryside, so I returned as a culinary instructor at the Gambero Rosso cooking school & then as head-chef & teacher at the Anna Tasca Lanza cooking school at Regaleali

I have now returned to Palermo keen to share my love & passion for Sicilian food & cooking with you!

We meet near the entrance of the fabulous Mercato del Capo. We then walk through the market to pick up anything we may need for the class before heading to The Sicilian Pantry kitchen for the lesson & lunch. The whole journey takes a leisurely half hour.

An excellent way to get to know 'the soul of the sicilian way'. Michael shares a lot of knowledge both of cooking in general, how what to do in sicilian cooking and his experiences in Palermo. It is a must when in Palermo.

This was a really special experience! We cooked some amazing food, learnt lots of new skills, lots of history about Palermo and ate so much food! Michael is super knowledgeable and really generous. He even tailored the session to us after we found something we liked in the market tour beforehand. We would highly recommend this trip to anybody interested in learning more about Palermo through food

A conscientious host very interested in the history of Palermo, Sicily, and Europe in general; this would probably be a good experience for someone on their first couple of days in the city, to be introduced to the culture by its food, which is of course a handy gateway to a discussion of its history. Also, excellent wine. Limoncello not bad either.

Michael was really good at this, he taught us secrets to making great Sicilian food. And the four course lunch menu was simply delicious. For the price this is so worth doing

This was such a wonderful way to spend an afternoon. Michael oozes passion for food and history and made this class comfortable, informative and super enjoyable. He is not only great at explaining what to do but is also great at explaining other variations. He is easy to talk to which makes things a hundred times better. His thoughtful touches such as creating a booklet with the recipes you make as well as the warm environment make this a great experience 10/10 recommend.
