What you'll do

Clear your head and connect with nature! We will meet at the Burren Botany Bubble. You will then be introduced to the ancient Ogham Tree calendar and alphabet, an early Gaelic script. On the way to the hazel woodland you can enjoy trying the 2,000 year old sport of hurling! Learn how the hurl is carved from the root of the native Ash tree. You will then visit the famine village and see how 250 year old coppiced hazel trees provided our ancestors with nuts, fencing and roofing material for their dwellings. You will wander through the magical fairy woodland and learn about the folklore of the townland 'Cloonasee' 'The Meadow of the Fairies' and the mythical whitethorn 'fairy trees'. You will discover the plants, birds, mammals and insects that live in the Burren . You will learn how traditional remedies were made from the hedgerows. You will write your initials in Ogham on a Hazel or Ash disc you can use as a pendant, a lovely rustic memento of your experience. You can then relax in the farm café with tea, coffee or hot chocolate! You are welcome to spend the day exploring the rest of the nature sanctuary and discover wild orchids, the disappearing lake and meet the friendly pets.
Other things to note
You can spend the full day at Burren Nature Sanctuary and admission is included in the experience. We have a fabulous farm café and gift shop. We have airbnb accommodation on Burren Nature Sanctuary
