Take an urban hike, a Sunday morning trek through Galway

Experience hosted by Neil

  1. 3.5 hours
  2. Hosted in English

What you'll do

Our Sunday urban hike begins right on Eyre Square from the steps of the Hardiman Hotel, Eyre Square.

Its a walk of 15km in total, and so takes around 3 hours at a reasonable pace.

We head out towards the eastern part of Galway along little used tracks and paths to discover hidden beaches, any number of ruined castles and a few architectual curiosities.

After a break for a 'cuppa' we explore some of the Merlin woods and so back to the sea.

The walk is constantly changing in nature and will hopefully open up hidden corners of Galway's eastern suburbs that few visitors venture into.

We also hope that it will be a good experience for 'locals' to explore 'a road less travelled' in their home city.

My family has very strong links to the local community. I've been a resident myself for over a decade and have been running walking tours in Galway for many years.

This is a new venture, a physical trek but in set in the city rather open countryside. We hope that it will be a great way to get a real 'feel' of city away from the tourist sites.

With three or so hours to play with we hope that it provides a very different and personal experience...walking has had such a renaissance recently, it seems everyone wants to take a hike!

We look forward to meeting you!
