What you'll do

We will welcome guests into the space explaining the work of Words Beats & Life. We will begin the workshop with a warm up freestyle by our master artist, Flex Matthews, multi-year winner of the best MC in Washington DC, recognized by the Washington City Paper. We will then get the group involved with freestyle ciphers to get everyone warmed up. As a foundation, we will discuss specific styles of freestyle and important artists in the history of the form. We will then transition to a writing workshop to compose a song. For those interested, we will then allow participants to record their freestyle! Social media will be humming with your skills!

Don't miss this experience!! It was amazing!! I was first guest post-covid! I have to say that I'm SO impressed with this organization, the very thoughtful layout of the presentation, and a full hands on immersive, fun, high quality experience!! I am just thrilled and it was way beyond my expectations! A pro rapper Flex showed me the ropes and both he made me feel totally comfortable trying out how to rap when I had no experience at all and I had so much fun!! I learned about history of rap, and Flex showed me how to structure a rap verse and I was **amazed** at how much I wrote and got into it. Flex was soo easy going and personable, and I could tell he genuinely cares about connecting with people, I can't say enough about how surprised I was that he made me so comfortable!! I highly, highly recommend this experience, no hesitation at all! Thank you Flex and Mazi for an exceptional experience, and a true high light of my trip. They sent me photos and videos after too! With gratitude, Kathleen
