TOUR DESCRIPTION

After 50-minute drive from Barcelona we first visit the Benedictine Abbey, first built on the 11th century and home to Catalonia’s Patroness Saint, The Black Madonna, a strong symbol of spirituality and unity for the local people.

After, we hike up to the top, from where we enjoy the stunning views from the Natural Park of Montserrat and the rest of Catalonia from a bird´s eye view. Mediterranean Sea, main valley of the country and the Pyrenees further away, drawing the border with France.

During the hike we will walk on the same paths used by pilgrims hundreds of years ago, we will get inspired by Montserrat’s fascinating flora and fauna and we will experience unique ways where rocky pillars and ravines show us how inner mysterious water emerge from the hidden and undiscovered very center of the massif.

Back down in the Monastery area, we have some free time where you can browse amongst regional products in the local farmer’s market before we head back to Barcelona.

Where you'll be

We visit Montserrat’s Natural Park and its Abbey which is the heart of Catalan identity. Its combination of history, spirituality, nature and culture make Montserrat such a unique place to visit.

At the Abbey we see the Atrium, Basilica and Black Madonna. After, we hike through some of the most impressive viewpoints of the Natural Park. We enjoy breathtaking parts of this rock formation, while we share the legends hidden in the mountain.

Amazing tour! Highly recommend to anyone visiting Barcelona. We got there early to avoid the crowds and the monastery was absolutely stunning. Additionally we had a lovely hike with great views of the monastery and surrounding areas. Made some great friends along the way

This hike is a great departure from Barcelona for a morning especially if, like me, you like to get out of the city. The meet up directions are clear and it makes for an easy addition to any itinerary. The hike itself is a beautiful location, going early beats the crowds, and there are a few routes (more/less challenging), so as long as you can go uphill for a while you should be fine. The host is absolutely welcoming and gives great details about all part of the area and shows the best spots. Loved it.

This experience in Montserrat was magical! We started off the tour by visiting the monastery in the morning and basically had the place to ourselves. It was a very serene before all of the tour buses arrived. Uni led us on a hike that was tailored to our abilities and the views of the mountains and hills were incredible. Uni makes this trip to Montserrat often and provided great information about the landscape and history of the monastery. 10 out of 10 recommend!
