What you'll do

We'll meet in front of 76 Vogel Street (Vogel Street Kitchen), in the heart of Dunedin's warehouse precinct. After a health and safety briefing, I'll provide some historical context, then walk you through the transformation which is taking place here. You'll pass through funky public spaces and hear the backstories of several repurposed buildings. Please note that, due to sensitivity regarding Covid19, we will not enter any buildings, and we must maintain some physical distancing during our walk. That said, we may encounter some of the neighbourhood's heroes during the walk, and I'll share why I think Vogel Street is an exemplar of urban renewal.
Other things to note
We are obliged to wear facemasks on the walk and keep some distance between ourselves and others. Your guide will explain at the start of the walk. These measures are taken to mitigate any threats associated with COVID19.

The guide, Athol, was very good at explaining the history and development of the town. It was especially interesting to know about the buildings, architecture and collaboration of local artists and businesses with the council. And I appreciate that this tour was still on even if I was the only one who booked on that day. Thank you!

The Vogel Street Walk is a must to see and hear about the redevelopment of this historic part of Dunedin. Athol has endless knowledge about the area, and seems to know everyone working on the various projects. We loved learning about this special neighborhood and highly recommend the tour. Thank you Athol!

We found our hour-long tour with Athol fascinating--a chance to see and understand an area that few people get to experience. It's a great example of ongoing urban renewal and creativity.

Athol's provides a personable and caring set of insights and experiences related to the ongoing transformation of this historic district in Dunedin. It felt off the beaten path and a way to connect with the city in a meaningful way. What a wonderful opportunity to experience Dunedin apart from the hordes of tourists.

Athol is very knowledgeable and passionate about sharing the history and showing the recent developments of Vogel Street. Would never have known if we went down the street by ourselves. If you wanted to know how Vogel Street has been and is still transforming based on its history, this is the walk for you. Thanks, Athol : )

Athol’s Vogel Street Walk is particularly useful for solo travellers. I would not have enjoyed or understood the VSW experience if I’d just simply walked down the street on my own. Very interesting experience for people who enjoy architecture, history and culture
