What you'll do

We start with at local lunch @Streetfood. Local South-African Township food with a modern twist. Here we get to know eachother and I'll give you the introduction of Maboneng.

Walk through Maboneng, I'll show you the loads of street art in the neighbourhood accompanied by some information about the art pieces but also about how the neighbourhood became what it is today.Being named in the top 12 of the coolest neighborhood on Forbes magazine. We can proudly say this is the new revolution of a community of creatively influence people for the LOVE of art ,music and the culture of being together. You can experience the spirit of ubuntu as we call it.

We will then pass by 'I was shot in Joburg'. An interesting community project about photography. Pictures and crafts made by street children who used to live in a shelter. There is also a shop where you can buy there homemade art.

We end up on the other side of Maboneng, called Acces City. Where you find a jazz bar in a basement. Every night you find there a live performance. While you listen, the restaurant serves the best food in Maboneng, a 'to-do' for sure (dinner is not included in the price).
Other things to note
If you want to have dinner at Marabi, I can make reservations for you.
We'll be walking, so be prepared for that and if you have any special request please feel free too reach out to me on +27 60 3416 525

Maboneng is a hip and happening place. I have lived here for the last 10 years, so I can say I know the neighbourhood as it is my garden to play in. Everytime I'm still amazed by the street art on the big buildings.
I've seen the neighbourhood transforming into a vibrant and energetic place for a diversed audience. So I can share the history of Maboneng with you.
While working as tour guide and bartender here, I've met a lot of international travelers and locals that are highly noticed in the art/entertainment industry.

Where you'll be

We start with a delicious local South-African lunch. From there we go and walk around this wonderful neighbourhood. The buildings are filled with street art. It gives the suburb a colourful and vibrant character. We pass by 'I was shot in Joburg'. A community project about photography. They work with street children who used to live in a shelter. The tour ends in a jazz club. Where you can eat the best food accompanied by the best jazz in town.

I had an amazing time exploring maboneg with bright. He was very informative and I got to learn things about joburg that I would’ve never learned on my own!

Bright double booked us, excused himself because of family business and left us with another guide. Later on we met him with another group of tourists doing a tour. Even if there would be a reason out of which the situation occurred (which is rather unlikely as we booked the tour only two days ahead), there is definitely non for being dishonest.

Bright was an amazing tour guide took me to places that I would not have had access to as a tourist. His energy and knowledge of his neighbor hood is unmatched. Learned so much and felt the spirit of Ubuntu radiating from him. And like he said live in the now! Recommend this tour ten times over good locals eats and drinks, access to cool places, dope graffiti art with history behind it and history of the neighborhood can’t go wrong!
