What you'll do

Unless other arrangements have been made, you will be met in Sancerre where you will enjoy your first visit to a local wine-maker and learn about the history of wine-making in the region and the art of making world class Sauvignon blanc wines. You will also take a historical walking tour of this former Huguenot bastion which also boasts great views over the famous Loire river. From Sancerre you will be taken to visit the colourful street market in nearby Cosne-sur-Loire (Wed & Sun only) as well as a nearby goat farm to sample the excellent crottin de Chavignol. Lunch is in a typical local bistro where you can enjoy a selection of the local specialities such as warm goats' cheese served on toasts with a bed of fresh lettuce and diced bacon. We will also make a stop to admire the 12C Church and beautiful riverside town of la Charite-sur-Loire. This afternoon you will be taken to another mecca for all wine-lovers, Pouilly-sur-Loire, where a visit to a local winery will introduce you to an increasingly rare wine made from the Chasselas varietal. You will also enjoy a visit to a producer of an little-known appellation, Coteaux du Giennois, which produces super wines at fantastic prices!

I have lived in France for over 20 years and I have worked in all the wine-growing regions. My passion for great wine, food, history and culture made it an easy decision to settle in this stunning part of France! I offer trips to discover the Sancerre region,as well as the Puisaye, Vézelay & the Morvan, and Chablis.
My experience in wine & tourism has included working as a wine buyer and sommelier for boutique hotels, putting together wine lists for restaurants, a tour guide for luxury hotel barges, a wine hunter for Scandinavian importers, organising wine tastings in the UK, Holland & Germany

Nicholas is a charming and enthusiastic guide who knows the region well and shares his special knowledge well in a fun and entertaining way. What we liked best was how authentic he is in sharing his passion for wine and the region, and makes wine education accessible to everyone at whatever level of knowledge they have. In other words, he makes everyone feel special and appreciated. He planned the trip well but he’s also spontaneous and gracious. We adored him and highly recommend spending your day with him.

It was definitely worth booking a tour with Nicholas to see several different types of wineries in the area. Of course if you want to wander around on your own there are wineries everywhere. But, many of them have strange closing times and you need reservations. And you also don’t get to truly understand the differences between one place and another. Going Nicolas we were able to see a small family vineyard, a large more commercial vineyard, a 100% organic vineyard and a few others as well. One was even next a large castle. He spoke fluent English and French and translated for us to have a unique experience that we could not have on our own..

I didn’t know what to expect when I booked this tour but it surpassed all my expectations. Nicholas is one of the best guides I’ve had and every place that we went had something special and memorable. He brought us to places that I would not have found on my own and we met some incredible people. The storytelling was interesting and I learned a lot. Would definitely recommend and hope to do it again!

If you're visiting Sancerre, you must schedule with Nicholas. He took us to places we would have never found on our own. He has a deep knowledge of the region, it's wines and winemakers. Nicholas had a warm, engaging personality that made it very easy to spend the day with him learning about the region, wine, and any other questions we had about French education, politics and traditions. We visited both large and small wineries, including a beautiful Chateau where they welcomed us warmly, an amazing chevrière where we saw hours old baby goats and tasted delicious crottin de Chavignol all while sampling both organic and non-organic Sancerre and Pouilley Fume wines. Not only did we sample, but we were able to talk and learn from each wine maker we visited. It was the best day of our trip, despite an all day rain that never dampened Nicholas's enthusiasm for showing us the best of Sancerre and Pouilley Fume.

Thank you, Nicholas! This was our first AirBnB experience and you really made it a special one. There’s no way we could have done what you helped us do. We felt a genuine connection with each wine maker you introduced us to. They were of varying styles and sizes and certainly wouldn’t have been on any map we would have found. Thanks for the friendly conversation and knowledge you shared we truly felt like locals.
