The Surreal San Francisco Walking Tour

San Francisco, United States

What you'll do

This AIN’T just another walking tour—it’s a one-of-a-kind, mind-binding, theatrical experience.
It’s the Real San Francisco as presented by Clyde Always, the Bard of Bay City, storyteller extraordinaire, whose stage show has been featured at many renowned local venues such as The Marsh Theater, the Lost Church and Café International.
Along a winding path through the Mission, the Castro and the Lower Haight, you will be dazzled by several of Clyde’s own modern myths, legends, fables and fairytales. The cast of characters includes: a conceited coyote, a demonic barista, the fetchinest dog in the west and a brunch-obsessed buccaneer.
In between performances, your host will be pointing out various dives, murals, coffee houses, trees, shops and stunning Victorian architecture.
Be warned! Your host is a fast-talker and he may tell you a few phony “facts.” ALSO—if you’re offended by profanity, bring a bar of soap. Hills scare you? Rest easy—the route involves no climbing up or down.
This walking tour is guaranteed to entertain, enliven and uplift both visitors and locals alike.

Embracing the bohemian spirit of San Francisco, I’ve been writing and reciting my own works of humorous literature for more than a decade, drawing inspiration from the colorful characters and settings that the Bay City has to offer.
My writings have been published in the pages of the Haight-Ashbury Literary Journal, Sparkle & Blink, the Berkeley Times, Slackjaw, etc. I’m also a regular contributor at Light Poetry Magazine where I rhyme about the topics of the day.
In service to my creative community, I’ve volunteered my every Friday evening since 2014 as the host and ringleader of the infamous Lower Haight Open Mic Night, where I encourage others to pursue their loftiest aspirations.

Clyde was a great host who showed me around San Francisco. Ended up being only myself on the tour, but Clyde was very personable and it felt like I had a close friend showing me around the city. Highly recommend for anyone who likes unique funny stories!

2 hours with Clyde was totally worth it! He kindly showed me the must see (historically important) places, murals, beautiful corners and stuffs the entire time with his fun and mesmerizing stories. I feel very lucky to choose this activity and if you are a newbie like myself, it will be a bummer to miss this! Highly recommended 😊😊

Absolutely great experience. Clyde clearly embraces and enjoys the role of the Bard of Bay City! His enthusiasm for his tales is a joy to watch, listen and digest. His local knowledge is invaluable if like me you use his walk to get your bearings after just arriving in the city.

Clyde was a wonderful host for myself, my wife and our 11 month old. He was hilarious and charming. He worked with us on the route and even went out of his way to help us find lunch! I highly recommend this tour. Beautiful sights, funny tales, and a great guide.
