What you'll do

Create your own letterpress postcard or ex-libris book insert using traditional methods. Over three hours of in-depth, one-on-one, guidance in the ancient craft of letterpress printing. Learn the secrets of creating beautiful, hand printed, graphic design. Your session will begin with a hands-on personalised tour of TYPA; a centre dedicated to print, its history and creativity. Beginning at the invention of paper in 105AD moving through China, The Middle East and to Europe, you will experience how the technologies of print, paper and the book shaped our world.
You will then have the hands-on opportunity to experience the historical craft of ‘composing’, the art of arranging words on a page. Dive into TYPA’s unique collection of ‘type’, the wooden or metal letters which were used to produce books, posters, letters and more before computers. You will be able to create your own beautifully customised card, ex-libris book insert or business card, and print a small edition. Not only will you walk away with a perfect souvenir or gift, which you will have created with your own two hands, but you will gain knowledge and skills in the creative, authentic and inspiring Letterpress print process.

Where you'll be

TYPA was founded in the spring of 2010 as a private museum to fill the gap within memory institutions and save the last letterpress machines. When a visitor steps in, they are greeted by the smell of fresh ink and the rumble of the printing press. In 2020, TYPA received the ILUCIDARE Special Prize for our innovative approach, which was awarded for their distinctive solution to preserving cultural heritage
