What you'll do

Dive in to an informative oyster experience where humour dictates the script.

To begin, you’ll discover the inner workings of a coastal oyster warehouse. You’ll learn the local history and be wowed by the science of how tides provide the ideal water for oysters. Then, you’ll explore our aquarium that features some of the fascinating local sea creatures.

Finally, master the art of oyster shucking and gather round communal rustic tables to eat your fill of Flaggy Shore oysters along with a suitably paired glass of wine.
Other things to note
Our premises is a wet environment and can be quite chilly due to the seawater that is flowing through it. For this reason guests should wear warm clothing and appropriate shoes.

I now run a business with my daughter Ciara and we can’t wait to share our experience with you. We’ll do our best to make your visit informal, informative, and entertaining.

Gerry gave a wonderful talk about the area, the ocean creatures in his tanks (first time holding a sea urchin), and the oysters he sells. We learned how to open oysters ourselves and afterwards got to eat as many as we could (while Gerry kept our wine glasses topped off). Would definitely recommend if you're in the area!

This is our second time on this adventure. We love it just as much as the first time. It is such a beautiful view and a fascinating story with a fun time exploring the aqua tank that delights adults and children. The oyster lesson is a fun challenge and the endless oysters are a real treat for those of us who cannot access this fresh delicacy in our country. It rustic, raw, salty and invigorating. We brought a loaf a bread with us on the first time and brought it again the second time and I would suggest that if you prefer to eat oysters in the american style—-with salted crackers. Enjoy!

It was such a treat to learn not only how to shuck oysters, but also about the history of oyster farming in the area. Gerry's daughter Chiara was extremely knowledgable and happy to answer all of our questions. And when they say all you can eat, they mean it! We totally stuffed ourselves. Another group brought bread to eat with the oysters which I do recommend doing if you come hungry. All in all it was a great experience and I can certainly recommend!

Gerry was awesome! Great information on the area in Galway, the knowledge he has you can tell he’s lived there a long while. The shucking was really fun, wine and hospitality were totally worth the hour drive in the beautiful country side. Thanks Gerry!
