What you'll do

Traditional Basket Weaving Lessons (Beginners and Improvers): for a first lesson with me you'll make a traditional round bottom stake & strand multi-use basket (no handle) or a frame basket with a handle....which you'll take home with you!

You'll be taught about the tools needed, where to buy, select and how to soak willow.

Following your first class, you can evolve the skills you learn in future lessons to make foraging/shopping baskets, waste paper bins, oval bottomed baskets, log barrels, plant climbers etc.

All tools and willow provided

Snacks and foraged Wild-herb teas throughout the day included. On booking, let us know if you have any allergies.

The compost loo is a short walk away over undulating ground/across a field, so wild weeing is encouraged!

We offer workshops on a 1 to 1 basis, for groups of adults, or parent/child workshops. Places are limited so early booking advisable.

Your initial booking cost (£180) gives you the option of having a private lesson, or bringing one other guest with you - it is possible to expand your group to a maximum of 6 people, for an additional charge, details on how to do this will be emailed to you once your initial booking has been confirmed.

Meet your Host, Emma

Since 2015 Emma has been studying basket making with Ivor Hancock, one of England's last surviving Master Weavers. Now in his 80's, Ivor has been weaving since he was 14 years old.

His teacher was a weaver who wove all his life who in turn was taught by his father who wove his whole life too. In those days they made baskets to last and fit for purpose as there was almost no plastic. Emma is driven to keep alive some of their exacting techniques and to pass them on to future generations.

I can highly recommend the day. Emma was lovely, patient, knowledgeable, and a great teacher. I came away surprising myself with the quality of the result which was all down to Emma. Great location, fabulous company, and, most importantly for me, a genuine wholesome break away from the grind.
