This experience was such a great idea—mixing kayaking with a visit to the arboretum. But what made it really nice was the extra attention Geneen and her husband Aaron put into our experience: bottles of water, a towel to dry off any wetness, a snack during the trip, and a plastic trash bag for those who wanted to pick up floating plastic along the way. They were both super friendly and tried to share the history of the area with us; not just the river but also to point out some particular aspects of the arboretum once we got there. And the beauty of the trip is that you can do it repeatedly because the foliage and blooming along the river and in the arboretum changes throughout the year.

This was a great experience! Geneen is an excellent host. The morning our experience was originally booked, Geneen immediately contacted us to share reports of high winds and offered to reschedule for anyone who did not feel super comfortable kayaking on more challenging waters. We decided to reschedule for a calmer day and had a wonderful time learning about the river and arboretum from Geneen. She shared a beautiful story about The Peace Tree, and gave us the option to do our part to protect the environment by cleaning up the river as we enjoyed our relaxing trip. Geneen provided a lunch for our picnic, as well as any supplies we needed for the activity. We were also given a brief tutorial for those of us without much kayaking experience. I highly recommend both Geneen as a host, and the Kayak to the National Arboretum experience!

This was a wonderful kayaking experience! Geneen was a great host who told us all about the National Arboretum and the Anacostia River. Our lunch was delicious and the setting was beautiful. I would definitely do this again!

This trip was a real surprise. I had done the bike trail along the river twenty-some years ago and had no idea the river had improved so nicely. It was especially fun seeing all of the high school and college crew teams out rowing on Saturday morning.

This was an unexpectedly lovely trip. Geneen and Aaron were very nice and very welcoming. We started at Bladensburg Waterfront Park and kayaked to the national Arboretum. We then hiked a bit in the Arboretum, had lunch, and went to several of the exhibits before hiking back to the kayaks for the paddle back. We saw lots of wildlife and thoroughly enjoyed the beauty of the Anacostia. I highly recommend this!

This was a great way to spend a day - kayaking on the river was incredibly peaceful, and an entirely unique way to approach the Arboretum. A definite must-do if you get the chance!
