Sinead is the creator of Mungo Murphy's Seaweed Co. She created him late one night as she was trying to write a story but instead emerged with a business idea. Sinead grew up harvesting seaweed to feed the abalone on her mother's abalone farm; but only after studying law and working at a desk in an office wearing regular work clothes, did she begin to miss the fresh air and lifestyle out West. She now enjoys wearing wellies to work and delights in experimenting with various algae specimens to her hearts content. But then, Sinead has always been a bit of a weirdo.

Where you'll be

We'll begin the day with an interactive tour of our wind powered, land based abalone farm, taking you through the history and science of abalone production. Before meeting the abalone and other sea creatures that live on the farm, we'll take a walk along the rocky shore to identify and taste the variety of fresh seaweeds and sea herbs that are in season before returning to the abalone farm for a tour and tasting of the foraged and farmed produce.

We booked this experience on a whim, and it was one of our favorite parts of the trip. Sinead is a delight! We really enjoyed learning about the farm and modern issues affecting Ireland from her. The tasting experience was so unique - and delicious! We would happily recommend it to others.

Wow, what a wonderful experience. we always want travel to change us and this is one of those experiences that changes you!!! The hosts are so wonderful, knowledgeable and affable. we had a bit of trouble with the GPS so follow directions exactly but once we got there it was welcoming, beautiful and most importantly, educational. I won't spoil it for anyone, but I you love new flavors, textures and presentations, this can't be missed. I consider it one of the most unique, deeply hands on experiences I've had in the EU. wear warm shoes, that was my only source of discomfort.

An authentic experience gathering seaweed & edibles from the shoreline & learning about aberlone farming in a beautiful & remote area of the Irish coast. Would highly recommend.

Unique experience - Ireland's only abalone farm! Got the full dramatic story of abalone farming in Ireland from Sinead, and the intricacies of their lifecycle and farming, with a tour of the facilities, and then walking the beach to try a dozen different edible seaweeds. Then delicious meal of abalone, raw and cooked, and seaweed sides. Truly unique! Just dress for strong weather!
