What you'll do

This exciting activity with me explores the Austin skyline on our way to go see 1.5 million bats that reside under the Congress Avenue Bat Bridge.

We meet at a private kayak tour launch located next to one of Austin's most exciting new Cidery and Arcades, the Austin Cidercade. After some quick icebreakers with the group, we get fitted for life jackets, paddles and the kayaks then we do a paddle lesson to get everyone feeling comfortable on the water.

We head off to the Congress Avenue Bridge to check out the 1.5 million bat colony during the sunset. Grab some instagrammable moments to share with your family and friends. Enjoy a nice easy paddle and also observe one of nature’s wonders and learn about how these nocturnal creatures help create a better ecosystem for everyone.

I grew up kayaking and paddleboarding as an eagle scout. I love kayaking the downtown area and know the city very well. I have been giving tours for about 2.5 years. I really connected with the nonprofit the Austin Bat Refuge. I love to share spots I love about the city with my guests.

We have lived in the area for a little over two years and this was our first experience on lady bird lake. It was a beautiful setting. Connie knew a lot of details about downtown buildings and architecture as well as knowledge on local hot spots for night life and dining. The bat flight was fantastic to witness from the water vantage point. We would do it again and would take out of friends and recommend to locals as well.

What a lovely experience! Connor was great, full of stories and fun facts about Austin and all the riverside architecture and city history as we made our way to the bats and the bridge. And the bats...so cool! Ps: expect a wet butt from the kayak, bring a change of clothes for after if you're planning to go anywhere.

Had such a great time with Connor. It was such a unique experience to be on a kayak on the lake, but also to see the bats! Connor told us a lot of great facts about the city and the bats. Great tour and highly recommend!

Awesome experience! It was awesome to hear firsthand while kayaking how much Austin has been changing from Travis. Most importantly we saw the bats which was even more breathtaking than we thought!

We booked with Connor rather then the other option since his description noted volunteering with an Austin bat non-profit about a week in advance for 6pm-8pm. We were not contacted until 1.5hrs before the start time to let us know it would be 30 minutes late. we showed up just before 6:30 to meet Conner and our host was no where to be seen. People were slowly showing up at the meeting spot not knowing were to go for the next 30 minutes, some of us had been told 6:30 others were told 7, others were told between 6:30 and 7. I messaged Connor and received no response. A few minutes after 7 another host, Travis showed up for our tour, calling Connor his boss. We got out on the water about 7:15 and were back just after 9. Travis was very nice and did a nice job on the tour, however I really can't recommend it. I still haven't received any apology about the delay/change in hosts or explanation. We had limited time in Austin and I would have rather rented kayaks ourselves for half the price and gone out then waited around a parking lot for 45 minutes.
