What you'll do

My experience is about learning and enjoying the African movements in the latin sounds.
Is an understanding of body movements to the rhythms from the African roots. A crush course if you will. You will enjoy Afro Latin dance in a whole new way. It is not a Zumba class!
This dance class explores the basic steps of the Afro-Diaspora culture dance. Basic body moves to dance all the most popular music found in Latin America.
Warm up to AFRICAN music, basic steps of BACHATA, build according to the individual and/or group dynamics and move on to the SALSA beats. To spice up our accomplishments we will celebrate with SOCCA and/or DANCEHALL and to wrapp it up, we will do so with soothing REGGAE. Never sit down again while music is playing. We may participate in a a group but sometimes it can be just you and me. Now lets dance like no-one is watching!
Other things to note
This session is conducted barefoot and with comfortable clothing. In order to take place in this experience please ensure that you can perform one hour of intense workout.
“Dance is but a form of expression of our thoughts and feelings that uses the body as an instrument to the sounds of music”

I was born in Costa Rica to Jamaican and Salvadoran parents. I studied dance at the Alvin Ailey School in New York. I have been a dancer ever since. I have learned (and practice) several other dances, styles including belly dancing, flamenco, and tango. Nevertheless, my African roots are my heart and soul—they run in my blood. It is my passion to teach what I love the most. I opened the doors of Salsa Brava Rasta Bar in its beachfront location in 1992. Ever since, I have devoted my efforts and time to preserve, enforce, and teach our cultural traditions through the arts of food, music, and dance.

Loved this dance class so much! I’ve been dancing for years and she truly pushed me and showed me new styles that I’d never experienced. An amazing class and workout right on the beach. Wuanda is a lovely teacher!

Really fun class with great music! I was the only student so we were able to personalize. Wuanda is super patient too. I would take again when I'm back in Puerto Viejo.

This was amazing! Getting to dance various Afro Latin styles to the backdrop of the beach and the occasional encouragement from the locals was a once in a lifetime opportunity. Wuanda gave me some history before we started and reminded me, “This is in your blood.” I loved when she also would say “stop looking at your feet. You know it.” And that boost of confidence made me know it. I felt closer to my African roots with each step and beat. I wish I could stay and do this class every morning before I start my day. Get off this review and book it already!!

Don’t hesitate, just sign up for the class. Waunda is the embodiment of pura vida. The class is part culture, part connection, part, part release, and loads of fun. My jaws hurt by the end from all the smiling and laughing.
