Where you'll be

After visiting Santa Maria de Montserrat the mountain’s Benedictine monastery, and see the 'Black Madonna', we'll start an ascent to the middle of the Montserrat range, taking the St. Joan funicular railway.
Here the hiking part of the tour begins. A genuine shrine is where we will stop for having lunch in the company of the wonderful views.

I highly recommend Fermi and this particular route. Let me expand my opinion about both. 1. Fermi is highly professional and have very deep experience in climbing and hiking in general and in particular this route. So he can adapt the routes to you interests and physical abilities. it can be just easy walk or intense workout, as you wish :) Also he knows all special places with less people and grate views. Also I would like to highlight not only professional skills but vibe. Fermi is very comfortable person to share route and he made very welcomed atmosphere. 2. Now about the area. I find this mountings quite unique. For example they are very different from Kazbek or Altai area. Also route different from Lycian trail if compare to clothes trail routes. I recommend to visit it. Regarding the historical part with monasteries, I am not a big fan, so I came mostly to see mountains. But it is interesting complement.

Our guide was Frank, and he was absolutely excellent! He was extremely accommodating of a change in the date due to inclement weather (intense rain and wind). Communication was superb, and Frank was so gracious and open about himself and suggesting the best plan of attack with our itinerary based on unforeseen obstacles (ie the funicular was under construction and the normal path was closed due to possible avalanche activity from the rain and wind). My kids 9 and 11 needed more time to enjoy certain areas/rest/needed to eat, and Frank was flexible and accommodating with our needs as a family. He treated my kids as if they were his own family, and my kids simply adored him. I can’t recommend Frank enough. He gave us a 5 star experience and we feel so grateful that we spent time with him at the beautiful Monserrat monastery.

Great hike and simply beautiful. We got lucky and it was just Fermi and us for the day and he brought us to some spectacular views. Would recommend this adventure to all!

The tour of the monastery and hike up Montserrat was amazing from the start. Our Guide Fermi, picked up up close to the AirBnB we were staying at. His van was clean and comfortable for the 45 min drive to the mountain. Once there we reviewed the plan of the day and started touring the Abby, which was amazing. Fermi gave us such great background and history that it made the start of the tour come alive. Never felt rushed. Once we were finished at the monastery, we took the funicular part way up the mountain and began our journey. The pace was great and accommodated everyone in our family, especially our two sons, 9 and 12. Fermi found opportunities to engage the boys in a little climbing and made safety a priority. Along the way there were some steep climbs but nothing anyone is decent shape couldn't handle. Fermi always gave us the option of taking the short cut or the easy way but we opted for the climbs and long way around so we could see more. We hiked to several of the mountains peaks, had several goat sightings, a rare occurrence, then started our ascent to the tallest peak. Fermi took his time, gave us plenty of time to rest along the way, pointed out several of the hermitages and told us stories along the way. All the while he found opportunities to take pictures of us where there were amazing views. Once at the top of the mountain, he treated us to great Spanish lunch he picked from a local bakery. Sun-dried tomato, arugula and cheese sandwiches, on this amazing bread. Lemon cake, chocolate covered rice cakes and fresh mandarins, along with plenty of water, refueled us for the journey down. In all, we made it an 11 mile hike and, while we were exhausted by the time we arrived back at the monastery, it was a wonderful experience and 100% worth the time, cost and energy. If you do plan to go to Barcelona, and are thinking of taking a tour, Fermi is the only person to call.

The setting/landscape is gorgeous. The guide catered the hike to our ability. Our guide knew the mountain like the back of his hand- amazing! This hike is not for beginners!

The group was just my spouse and I which meant that we had a very personalized hiking experience. Fermi asked whether we wanted an easy or difficult hike, and when we said "medium," that is just what we got. The views were amazing and we came very close to some mountain goats. The snack and lunch were delicious. I would recommend this experience to anyone who enjoys the outdoors. Fermi is a wonderful guide.
