Limassol, Cyprus

Experience hosted by Pambos

90 mins, Hosted in English and Greek

What you'll do

An entertaining wine tasting session and story telling experience around the magical world of the Sweet Cyprus Wine with known and unknown historical turning points, the process of Commandaria wine making and the right way to taste and enjoy the world's oldest wine with a designated origin still in production.
We will use proper organoleptic analysis (2 dry and 3 sweet wines) to unfold the elements that complete the taste of the island's sweet treasure.
** In the 11th Century, King Richard the Lionheart called the sweet wine of Cyprus “the Wine of Kings and the King of Wines”. The Knights of the st John Order created the Grand Commandari de Chypre to command their order and manage their activities around Europe and the rest of the world, when they transferred here from Jerusalem in 1192 and formed the kingdom of Cyprus.
Invasion followed invasion. Lusignan rule was followed by the Venetians, and then the Ottomans. In 1878 the island was ceded to Britain, and in 1960 Cyprus became an independent republic. In 2004 Cyprus joined the European Union. Yet one thing still remains the same….

Our free-flowing discussion is designed to equip you with the basic knowledge to be a smart wine buyer and a Commandaria wine geek among your friends. This experience is an excellent team-building activity or date idea for wine-loving couples.

Gourmet food and fine wine industry has been my chosen career for the past twenty five years, during this period; I have successfully honed my skills and also enjoyed the challenge of developing new ones.
I have been fortunate in being able to work with many great talented and influential professionals whose avoided aim were to offer the very best in product quality and customer service to ensure the ongoing success of the business. This has always been my philosophy regardless of what area of the business I have worked in, be it within sales, staff training, or in the genuine pleasure I get when involved in selecting wine and food pairings, this passion for excellence has to always be present.

Where you'll be

The arcade that is created where Anexartisias and Athinon Streets meet was transformed into a quiet space, decked in greenery, romantic twinkling lights and retro lanterns, where one can enjoy food and drinks from morning to night. Beyond the decor, which is reminiscent of a London neighborhood, another standout element is the circular bar around the tree in the courtyard.

Great evening activity to enjoy, taste and absorb the senses of Cyprus while learning about a variety of wines and historical stories (or tales? -- you get to decide!). Pambos is a warm and friendly host and you'll be able to participate no matter your level of wine tasting experience.
