What you'll do

You’ll learn about Bern in a nutshell, the history, local lifestyle and modern transformation of the city of Bern, in this private walking tour. During our 1-1 1/2 hour walk you will learn about Switzerland’s capital, learning about local politics and lifestyle.
Our tour starts at Bern Bahnhof, learning about the history of the station as well as the Heiliggeistkirche, the church of the Holy Ghost. We will then walk through the old town of Bern stopping at the famous Bärenplatz and Bundeshaus. Following a brief history of Swiss government we continue on our way through town visiting other local attractions including the famous clock tower, Einstein’s apartment, and the Bern Cathedral the tallest cathedral in Switzerland. We will visit some of the more famous fountains along the way stopping for a drink of water if you need one, bring your own water bottle and fill right up at the fountains. We will continue on to the oldest church in Bern, cross the Aare River and finish at the Barengraben and BarenPark. Just a glimpse of the beautiful city I will leave you with tips on the best views and must see museums and landmarks.
Other things to note
This is a walking tour and as such we do quite a bit of walking please wear appropriate footwear the tour is about 2 km. The weather in Bern is often all seasons in one day I recommend bringing a light jacket even in the summer months, and a warm coat during the months of October to March.

I am an American expat living in Switzerland with my Swiss husband. I am a travel writer so it’s my job to get to know the cities I visit. I travel all over Switzerland to give tours and write about the places I have been. I came to Switzerland to make it my home and have adopted the Swiss life myself. I make it my job to learn about all the interesting points in each area I visit. I currently offer custom tours meaning the guest tells me what’s important to them and I design to tour to fit their needs.

Where you'll be

With so many stops available you will experience architecture from the 14th century to the 20th century. Beautiful churches, remnants of the old city and a beautiful view of the Aare and the only castle in the city of Bern, housing the historical museum, built in 1894 based off 15th and 16th century castles.

Alicia was a great guide and we definitely saw more of the city than we otherwise would have. She answered the many questions my daughter asked, gave great insights into the various landmarks, and was super friendly. She also came and found my family for the tour as my GPS took us to another spot which was greatly appreciated and not something many guides would do- thanks!!

Alicia is a wonderful tour guide for anyone looking for a tour of Bern in English. We visited most of the old town as well as the "Bear Garden". She knows how to navigate all the alleys and streets. Great tour.

Alicia was a great guide and showed us around the beautiful city of Bern . She told us a lot of history and modern information about the city as well plus extra things she would recommend us to do with the limited amount of time we had. Plus places she would recommend to eat. She was very friendly and liased prior to our meeting up with her to make it seamless. We would all recommend Alicia’s walking tour.
