What you'll do

We'll be up bright and early, meeting at Kangaroo Point Lookout. We'll have a chat about what you know and what you don't about photographing sunrises and I'll give you all the tips and tricks you'll need to take stunning cityscape photographs as the sun rises, illuminating Brisbane's downtown area and the Brisbane River. In between photos, I'll point out some of the significant landmarks that you can see from the lookout. I'll also be happy to share with you local knowledge of places you may be interested in visiting based on your individual interests. By the end of the experience, you'll have so many beautiful photos of Brisbane city lit up by the sun's golden rays that you'll have a hard time choosing which ones you like more! If it's a rainy day, don't fear, we'll learn how to capture cityscapes that use the weather to add mood to your photos.
Other things to note
While the sunrise is most spectacular on a clear or partly cloudy day, the skyline at dawn can be just as picturesque on a cloudy or even rainy day thanks to the city lights and reflections in buildings' glass facades. I will show you how to get the best camera settings to leave with great photos.

I am a professional photographer and photography instructor with almost 20 years' experience. While education is important (I have a Master of Arts in Visual Arts - Photography), it is the experience that I've gained working professionally and running photography workshops that really sets me apart. While I was working as staff photographer for a lifestyle magazine in Vietnam, I was commissioned by Artbook to produce the book Saigon Panorama, which is full of panoramic photographs of life in Ho Chi Minh City. The book has been wildly successful, but my passion really is helping photography enthusiasts learn how to express the way they see the world through photography.

It was worth it. Adam taught me about the settings on my camera, explained how shutter, aperture and manual work. He guided me how to adjust my camera settings on manual and aperture settings. He answered all my questions with detail. That’s why, I feel confident enough to venture on my own. I feel that he’s a friendly and very patient person who is passionate in his field and enjoys teaching it to others. Well done.

The photo lesson with Adam was superb. Adam is an excellent teacher with a patient and informative style that is never condescending. He was able to explain simply and without jargon how to adjust a camera’s settings to take better photos. I learnt a lot and will be able to continue using these skills. The location is also superb, directly across from Brisbane’s CBD. Although the start in summer is early, about 0430, to catch the sun rising, the changing view is beautiful and I felt better for having gotten up to watch the sun paint the city. I enjoyed the activity so much, and appreciated Adam’s effective instruction such that I am very likely to undertake this activity again, next time I am in Brisbane.

Adam was a wonderful teacher. Patient, thoughtful and used some great metaphors to help explain complex ideas. He was respectful, positive and very generous with his time. A truly memorable experience. Thanks for your efforts Adam:)
