As travellers my husband Neal and I like to have experiences that connect us to local culture and customs. I learnt a lot about typical Rajasthani food and how it is made. I got to help and Mamata was there to guide us and encourage us. Having tasted some of the dishes before it was great to know more about them. It was nice sharing the meal with the family. Thank you again to both of you and your families.

I’ve taken many cooking lessons across the globe, and this one with Mamata has been my absolute favorite. Highly recommend doing this, it is an extremely unique opportunity to get to meet artisans, and cook some amazing food.

Thank you Mamata and Chhotaram to welcome us so warmly. The ingredients for food we cooked came straight from their farm and tasted heavenly. We really got to know the spices while we cooked, laughed about our best effort crooked chapati and prepare all dishes ourselves! It did not feel like a cooking class, it felt that we are part of your family and joined the family rituals. Incredible experience in beautiful open fire kitchen with an amazing hosts.

What a great experience! It was not only a cooking experience but I felt a sense of belonging in the family kitchen, I think I forgot how important is this living space until I have lived this cooking class. Mamata welcomed us by teaching us how to make chai, we then started to prepare the vegetables, getting to know each other and magically chatting like if we knew each other or were part of the same family. We learnt about the different spices and how to combine them to prepare the different dishes, we have used old fire pit to cook them, such a great feeling, it was like travelling back in time, capturing the family atmosphere, kids coming back from school, accommodating late guests arrivals, chatting with Chhotaram about their wonderful family project. After cooking the main courses, it was time to prepare chapati, that’s were it became very funny for me as I really need more practice to make a proper chapati or paratha, it was really fun! And thanks to Mamata and Lila and their excellent teaching skills, I eventually made it :) It was also great to share our food with other guests from the homestay, everybody agreed it was their best food in Rajasthan... a little bit of pride is also good sometimes :) It took 4 hours to prepare the full meal, we learnt Rajasthani vegetarian cooking but also took lessons about love, care and belonging thanks to their incredibly lovely family, a huge respect for Mamata and Lila for their hard work every day and their will to share their knowledge and tradition, plus, it’s always with a smile :) I definitely recommend it to anyone who wants to live a social, immersive and authentic cooking experience!
