What you'll do

In our place of peace "Temazcal y Masajes Pixan" we are a team of people preserving our culture, everyone is welcome to our space
With the support of Nayel and Yaollin (the man who guides the temazcal), we start welcoming people, I explain the Temazcal process, that is a traditional Mexican steam bath, which originated with pre-Hispanic Indigenous peoples, Is used as part of a curative ceremony thought to purify the body and balance mind, body and spirit.

With sahumerio, copal and incense I make a energetic cleaning (preparation before entering the Temazcal). Afterwards, we enter at the Temazcal and we sit around the navel. Then the previously heated volcanic stones, which emit steam, emerge. The place becomes little warm, While the body rids itself of toxins through sweating, the spirit is renewed through ritual. And we will learn the importance of the words, the silence and the strength of the songs, making relaxing but also fun dynamics.
When we finish we go out and shower in the garden with a rustic watering can, the water purifies our body.
After I offer abundant and varied fresh fruits and natural fruit waters gift from our Mother Earth.

Besides promoting physical well-being and healing, the Temazcal is also a ritual and spiritual practice in which traditional healing methods are used to encourage reflection and introspection. The temazcal is thought to represent the womb and people coming out of the bath are, in a symbolic sense, re-born.
Come and enjoy a unique experience!

I am Rene Avila, I was a naval pilot, I come from a family of Mayan origin and now I dedicate myself to give physical and spiritual healing through the traditional medicine of our ancestors through the Temazcal (bath house), for 2 years. I live in a bungalow, in a local and very quiet neighborhood of Playa del Carmen. For me it is a pleasure to serve and show my Mayan culture through this experience. I love teaching others the use of medicinal plants, because my father taught me when I was a child. Therefore, I made it part of my life and my home. My family and I serve with love, my wife gives massages and I give Temazcal therapy and so we work together at home.

Where you'll be

I do the Temazcal Ceremony in a beautiful garden of my house (bungalow), a beautiful place that I built when I learned a little carpentry. For me it is a special place! I am located within the city (local area), 10 minutes from the tourist area and only two streets from the Sea. Calle 92 norte between 10 and 15 av.

This was a great experience for me and my wife. The was our first time and they made us feel comfortable. Johnny the ceremony facilitator was awesome. There was also a translator Saundra (I hope I got her name correct) was awesome. This was a great experience to do and learn about ourselves and our connection with nature, especially during this full moon. If you're in Playa or any surrounding city do this experience to get a real feel of the culture here.

This is an incredible experience where we learnt so much about Mayan culture and ourselves. You’ll gain a very different perspective that goes deeper under the surface. We did the Temazcal Ceremony at the end of our time in Playa del Carmen. Our guide was incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about sharing the meaning and history of the Temazcal. He, our translator, and everyone were wonderful. You’ll be guided through the Temazcal Ceremony in which you’ll think about your connection to yourself, others, and world while inside the clay dome. Each action and the elements used in the ceremony and sweating stages have a deep meaning and symbolism representing a long and rich history. The Ceremony is broken in 4 stages over the course of an hour inside the clay dome. In between each stage of sweating and introspection, the door to the clay down is opened which cools the space. Each stage is progressively hotter. They are very considerate of any health concerns related to the heat that you may have. After the Temazcal Ceremony, we had a quick cold shower in the garden. Then we had water, fresh fruit, and fresh guacamole.

I am a Reiki Master and got so much out of this experience. I felt release from my Solar Plexis Chakra. It was amazing! Afterwards fresh fruit water and fresh fruit is offered. Oh yeah and the best guacamole and the most perfect chips! For me since I had a huge release I had to take it easy after the experience because my body and spirit was in a healing state that was exerting energy and it made me feel sleepy and a little drained. So glad I made it! Thank you to the team for waiting on me. I got lost on the way. Glacias!!!

This was a grounding and powerful way to start our trip and bring in a new solar return. We were guided with intention and clarity. The location was a sanctuary. We learned so much about the Maya culture, and the ritual felt intuitive while eye-opening. Absolutely changed our perspective and would do it again.

This was an amazing experience. If you truly what to balance your mind, heart, and spirit, this is the first step. I feel blessed that I was able to become apart of this tradition.
